What factors affect the Price of a Car
Factors affect Price of a Car
Often, motorists begin to think about the technical condition of the vehicle immediately before the sale, which does not in the best sense affect the final price of the car. Those who take care of their swallow from the very beginning win significantly in price. In this article, we will look at the factors that affect the cost of a car.
What determines the price of a car
It is a mistake to believe that only the year of manufacture and external condition affect the cost of a car. Criteria to pay attention to before setting the price of a car:
car model;
transmission;
drive unit;
car color;
electronics;
additional technologies;
appearance;
interior condition;
technical condition;
mileage;
originality of PTS.
These are the factors that determine the final cost of a vehicle.
Like it or not, but the brand of the car is an important point in shaping the cost of a car when selling. The brand reflects the main quality of a car – reliability. For example, Japanese cars (Honda, Mazda, Subaru, Toyota) lose 65% in value during the first three years, as do some English and German models. At the same time, for certain cars, the price decreases much more slowly. Such as Acura, Mercedes, Audi and Lexus are valued for several years – in the first 3 years the price drops by no more than 35%.
Transmission
When buying a car, most of the people often neglect the opportunity to install the desired gearbox, since they have to wait a long time (up to six months). That is why many agree to the one that is already installed on exhibition samples in the cabin. So when buying a sports car, people choose automatic transmission. In the future, buyers – fans of sports cars and fast driving are unlikely to appreciate the absence of a manual transmission. This means that the price will have to be reduced.
Drive unit
Four-wheel drive will always raise the car in price, unlike one front-wheel drive. It is understandable – the advantages of PP: reliability and increased cross-country ability. As a rule, cars with PP on the market are more expensive by 30-50 thousand than front-wheel drive cars. However, rear-wheel drive is not inferior in cost, despite the fact that all-wheel drive provides the greatest stability and safety on the road. The fact is that more money is spent on the production of rear-wheel drive cars. In addition, there are not so many of them in the global car market.
Does the color of a car affect the price?
The choice of color also affects the cost of the car, as does its drive. What, if not about the color when buying a car, think in the first place? So your buyer already probably knows what body color he wants. Most requested colors:
the black;
White;
silver.
These are universal shades acceptable for most people. Traditionally, they are painted, for example, Toyota Camry and Mercedes E – class. Cars of these colors are in demand both in the primary and secondary markets. And they cost an order of magnitude higher than cars of other colors (run-up from 30 to 60 thousand rubles) – accordingly, the likelihood of a quick sale of such cars increases significantly.
The choice of color also affects the value of the car.
Other colors (orange, blue, green, red, etc.) often reduce the chances of a quick and profitable sale. Of course, some popular models are given unusual shades at the factory – yellow, purple, etc. This happens in the case of limited edition anniversary series and the like. Then, due to the rarity of the exclusive color of a popular brand (for example, BMW, Mercedes, Porsche), a used car acquires a high price in the secondary market. However, due to the considerable cost, it is unlikely that it will be possible to sell an exclusive swallow in one day. But keep in mind that a traditional hatchback with exotic paint is not the same as the unusual bright color of a shiny sports car. Here the role is played by the colors and brand of the car in the aggregate.
Technology
Modern electronics look appropriate on brand new cars. But buyers of used cars are not interested in this. One of the explanations is the inability to purchase a car from the salon. Therefore, they opt for used vehicles. Such buyers are unlikely to have extra money to purchase additional equipment in the form of an audio system. What can not be said about the electronics built in by the factory. So, for example, navigation systems, which are increasingly spreading around the world, increase the cost of a car by several thousand rubles.
Tuning
It is widely believed that the presence of a power-increasing turbine or some other type of modernization will allow increasing the cost of a vehicle. This is not always true, because the buyer tries to avoid such a configuration. Periodically, there are concerns that such spare parts may wear out prematurely, and their replacement or repair will entail additional costs. In addition, there is no guarantee that your choice of additional equipment will be to the taste of the buyer – for him it may be superfluous. Your spending, in this case, will be unjustified. Remember that even minor changes to the factory settings of the car may be the reason for the denial of free defect repair if the official representative reveals any.
Body condition
When inspecting a vehicle, the buyer, first of all, will pay attention to the external condition of the body. Sometimes this factor is almost decisive at the first acquaintance with the car. If during the operation of the vehicle you carefully treated not only the insides, but also the external appearance – there is no reason for concern. Problems can arise if the “iron horse” was a regular in car wash complexes with low-quality detergents. Pay attention to the coverage of your car, eliminate visible flaws if any – such a maneuver will only play into the hands. Please note that extra stickers can confuse the buyer – it is believed that in this way the seller hides defects. Therefore, the absence of such will allow you to profitably and quickly sell the car.
Interior condition
In addition to the appearance and technical data of the vehicle, pay no less attention to the interior. In particular, this applies to smells that take place – tobacco smoke, animals (if you often transport them). It will not be superfluous to make a complete dry cleaning of the interior, which will allow you to get rid of not only foreign odors, but also possible stains on the upholstery, as well as wool. Rugs, if they are worn out, it is advisable to change to new ones, even if they are non-original. A neat appearance will increase the chances of a profitable car sale. Also remove non-vehicle items from the glove compartment.
Technical condition
Checking the car in a timely manner, as well as fixing the history of service repairs at an authorized dealer, will add some value to the car. The amount of information a representative knows about your vehicle is directly proportional to the value that can be added before selling the car. Even by tens of thousands of rubles, information on changing oil, belts, changing brake pads or suspension elements will allow you to increase the price tag.
How does mileage affect the value of a car?
The odometer indicator affects the price of a vehicle like nothing else. This factor sets the market price policy for used cars.
A car whose mileage exceeds several hundred thousand kilometers, even with good appearance and short-term operation, can be repulsive. For example, a mileage of at least 150,000 for a 10-year-old Opel or Volkswagen is considered normal, but if a car has run 300 or more kilometers in 10 years, it will be necessary to repair and change parts on it, with all the reliability of the manufacturer, almost every few months. Does the buyer need it? Hardly. For inexpensive models such as Daewoo, Chance, Lada Granta and Kalina, obsolete for 8-10 years, experts advise focusing on a mileage of no more than 150,000 km. Otherwise, it is recommended to refuse them, so as not to make yourself a headache.
Remember – the higher the odometer, the lower the price of the car. Therefore, if you travel a lot or use a car in a taxi, renting someone else’s vehicle is a good solution. In the future, you will sell yours for a decent amount.
