Note: The very structure of teaching. Unlike most of our teachers, American teachers never told the same thing that you can read in the book (really, what’s the point?). Moreover, on my program couples were conducted exclusively as seminars, there were no lectures at all. On pairs, we analyzed the material read, discussed it and applied it “in practice” in case studies (for this it was important to read those huge texts that were given by the homework). This opportunity is immense – the student can choose not only the pairs themselves, but also the teacher who will lead these pairs. After the first pair, if for some reasondo not like the teacher or the course, you can easily abandon it and take another. Teachers always distribute syllabus (analogue of our “curriculum” or “manuals”) on the first pair, where you can see what topics will be revealed, what literature will have to be read, what evaluation requirements, what homework will be, etc. Usually syllabus can also be asked from the teacher before the beginning of studies, when you are still planning what pairs to take in the next semester. As a result – a minimum of uninteresting or useless pairs. American education is very expensive. How does this affect the quality of education, you ask. It also affects how, because most Americans will think ten times before going to study in a specialty that is uninteresting to them or not needed, getting into debt (the majority gets education through a loan that will have to be paid almost all their lives) or by spending parental saving.
