Note: At the moment, we can identify a number of reasons for increasing the role of self-education in modern conditions: Information society is based on the production of new knowledge, its wide distribution and consumption; the increasing role of education ensures the acquisition of knowledge and training of the future engineer in the skills of self-education; the individual-personal process of transforming information into knowledge (self-education) becomes the leading activity in the modern information society. Analysis of scientific pedagogical literature has revealed several approaches in the study of self-education. This problem is considered: within the framework of the theory of continuous education, as a component linking, part of education, ensuring its continuity and continuity throughout the life of a person; in the pedagogical bases of professional development and training, as one of the most dynamic forms of raising the level of a specialist; in sociological research, as a category mediated by a person’s free time, an element of its structure; in the context of pedagogical and social psychology, as an integral part of self-education, self-improvement, self-development of the individual.
