The Boy Comes Home Summary
The play is a fateful event in the family affairs of Uncle James, a successful businessman who believes in strict discipline. Philip, the young nephew of Uncle James, comes home after four years of active war services in the army.
He is now a mature young man though only 21. He gets up late against the strict orders of his uncle to get up early. Uncle James is angry to see that Philip has violated the strict rules of his discipline. He presses Philip to join him in his jam business.
But Philip refuses to do so, holding that he would prefer to be an architect. His uncle refuses to give him the money for that job. Philip takes out his revolver. Uncle James gives in. but suddenly Philip announces to join the business of his uncle. It is a favourable change for the family.
Note: For a long time I had no interest in studying, I was always lazy and studied for three or four. After my second year at M-PhiI, I realized that I was doing the wrong thing and was transferred to a commercial non-prestigious university, where I formally went on to get a diploma, but in reality I concentrated on “work.” And soon I found a “dream job”, where I was paid a very good salary, and where almost nothing had to be done. After a year and a half I realized that, as if softer to say, dulled. I fell behind the trends, lost competences, my brains, not loaded with new tasks, atrophied, I stopped studying education, in short, I fell behind and fell behind very much. I measured my value by the size of my salary, not realizing that I was losing my real value day by day. It took me out of this whirlpool only, that I radically changed the direction of my work and “caught the wave” – began to receive real pleasure from my activities, because of which my laziness disappeared both in the part of the work and in the part of education. I again shook my brains, I dialed and continue to gain the necessary competencies and experience. I went to get a second higher education for the sake of education, and not for the sake of diploma. I began to understand what I wanted to learn. I’m already thinking about where I’ll be studying next. In other words, you will have a real motivation only at the moment when you find a case that you really want to deal with. Then you will begin to understand what exactly you need to learn in order to achieve greater success in your business. But all this rarely happens at the age of 17, so what you now see as your future may not be the one you want after 3-5 years.
